This project was created to practice and improve my hard surface modeling skills. I chose a revolver for the shapes in the design of this kind of object, and because it is recognizable.
Just like Chekhov said, if there is a gun in the first act it has to go off. So I decided to make a stylized clip in the vein of the Netflix Punisher intro sequence. I am not a huge fan of the show but I do like the style of that opening sequence.
And because I have a background in product photography I always have to do some kind of photo real produce/lifestyle render as well.
This clip was created to showcase the custom materials and the modeling of the revolver.
Who doesn't like some Behind The Scenes sneak peeks
This first clip is a peak at the scene file for the animation. Because I had a weird issue with xpExplosiaFX crashing my R25 I used S24 to create the smoke simulations.
I broke the smoke simulation down into 2 separate sims. The first was the barrel smoke sim and the second was the cylinder smoke sim. I used the xpFlowfield and some circle splines to create that smoke shape.
I then use DaVinci Resolve to do my color space transforms and grading. From here, I brought it into Premiere and did a few other adjustments and some sound design.
Here is a peek at the scene for the product/lifestyle render and a messy look at one of the materials.
